The raw material comes exclusively from Scandinavia and Germany: the climate and livestock conditions in these regions ensure the minimum number of defects per hide. Each hide undergoes a 17-stage tanning process at the company's factory in Tolentino. The result is a material with uniform colour, precisely calibrated softness and wear resistance unachievable through standard industrial methods.

The full Pelle Frau palette encompasses more than 150 colours — from classic saddle and ivory tones to contemporary graphite and deep navy. Each colour is available in several textures: smooth, grained, matte, and patinated. This versatility allows Poltrona Frau to meet even the most demanding design briefs — from an all-leather interior to a single accent chair in a neutral room.

Production and Key Partnerships

All Poltrona Frau production is concentrated in Tolentino. The company has preserved hand craftsmanship where it matters most: upholstery stitching, attaching leather to cedar frames, and tension control. The production standard is so high that over the past hundred years, several atypical clients have approached Poltrona Frau — and this has evolved into a separate business division.

The company created leather cabin interiors for Bentley and Maserati, fitted carriages for Trenitalia (Italian high-speed trains), supplied furniture to the US State Department building and to UN headquarters.
