Vibia

History

Vibia was founded in 1987 in Barcelona — a city where the architecture of Gaudí, Mediterranean sensuality and advanced engineering thought intersect. From the outset the brand set itself the task of not merely producing luminaires, but creating instruments for shaping atmosphere. Over almost four decades Vibia has grown from a regional manufacturer into a global brand with a presence in more than 105 countries, while maintaining an unbroken connection with the Barcelona design school.

A key moment in the brand's history was the conscious choice in favour of collaborations with independent designers rather than creating an in-house studio. Arik Levy, born in Tel Aviv and working in Paris, brought to the Wireflow collection the concept of "sculpture from light" — thin cables and geometric LED modules that appear to be drawn in the air. Jordi Vilardell together with Meritxell Vidal created Palma — a pendant with the organic form of a leaf that became one of the symbols of contemporary Spanish design. Lievore Altherr Molina is responsible for system solutions — Mayfair, North, Plusminus — where aesthetics and technology form a unified whole.

Vibia's technological philosophy is built on the principle of "minimal intervention, maximum effect". All collections are engineered for LED sources with the possibility of integration into DALI and Bluetooth control systems. The modular architecture allows the same luminaire to be adapted for a residential interior, office, restaurant or hotel lobby — without changing the manufacturer or disrupting the visual language of the project.

Since the 2020s Vibia has been actively advancing the concept of "Shaping Atmospheres" — the creation of conscious lighting scenes supporting different emotional states in people: concentration, relaxation, socialisation, activation. This is not a marketing slogan but a real design methodology, which the brand passes on to architects and designers through professional tools, workshops and the specialist Lighting & Wellbeing Studio division.
